Those who may not be candidates for the 2-3 hour Thread lift procedure that involves polypropylene threads with barbs or cones being inserted under the skin to pull it up can still opt for Dr. Kalitenko's hormone replacement therapy program, which helps restore skin's elasticity in a noninvasive way. Restylane - Number One Selling Dermal Filler in USA
With so many cosmetic dermal fillers entering the U.S. marketplace, consumers and physicians are interested in knowing which products are used most frequently,'' said Jonah Shacknai, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Medicis. ``Understanding physician practices in other marketplaces, some of which have had experience with dermal fillers for upwards of five to ten years, provides an additional piece of information for consideration to help make an informed choice.''
A Closer Look at Leadership and International Usage
Physicians have a variety of injectable options at their disposal to correct nasolabial fold wrinkles, ranging from collagen derivates to hyaluronic acids. When it comes to selecting a dermal filler for correcting nasolabial fold wrinkles, the vast majority of physicians surveyed (80 percent) preferred hyaluronic acid to collagen (7 percent) and fat (6 percent). In terms of product preference among various hyaluronic acid products, almost three times as many physicians surveyed selected Restylane (62 percent) versus the next option, Juvederm (22 percent).
Physicians surveyed who use Restylane in their practice reported that on average 57 percent of procedures they perform for nasolabial fold wrinkle correction involve this brand. More than one-third (34 percent) of these physicians use Restylane almost exclusively, utilizing the brand in almost all nasolabial wrinkle fold correction procedures (90 to 100 percent).
In my practice, I have been using hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers since 2003, when they first became available,'' stated Patricia Wexler, MD, a renowned dermatologist based in New York City. ``I consider Restylane to be the leading choice for my practice.''
Is there science in beauty? The survey revealed the factors physicians feel contribute most to making a person beautiful. There were several factors considered, including youthfulness, symmetry of features, and overall beauty. Thirty-nine percent of physicians surveyed feel that ``younger appearance'' is the main factor that makes a person beautiful, however there were some standouts when broken down by country:
* Younger appearance is the highest in France with 61 percent of
physicians surveyed selecting that response
* Italy found symmetry of features to be more important than the
other contributing factors with 44 percent making that selection
* Originality of appearance is most important to the German
physicians, with 34 percent of the vote
What did not vary among countries, or among physicians, is agreement (98 percent) with the statement that ``after receiving a cosmetic procedure, patients feel more confident regarding their appearance.''
Survey Methodology
The multinational survey was conducted by SRBI via 10- to 12-minute phone conversations reaching 369 dermatologists and plastic surgeons with a minimum of two years practicing medicine and regular use of facial fillers in their practices in Canada, Italy, Germany, and France. Participants were recruited through a sample of physicians compiled using pharmaceutical company sales data and professional registries. Participant use of specific brands of facial fillers was not part of the recruitment criteria.
SRBI is a full-service global strategy and research organization specializing in public policy and opinion surveys, banking and finance, telecommunications, media, energy, transportation, insurance, and health care. SRBI has an established track record of providing high quality, timely, and cost effective research and analysis. In addition to its headquarters in New York City, SRBI has offices in Washington D.C., Florida, New Jersey, and West Virginia.

Fuel For Life and Lines? Fragrance Makes A Difference
A study from Dr. Alan Hirsch at the Science of Smell found that a special odor can actually reduce weight up to 12 pounds. From the study:
Studies have found that certain clothes can affect visual perception of a personâs weight, but few if any studies have investigated the effect of other senses on weight perception. While some scents have been found to actually help reduce weight, this study is unique in that it tested perception of weight.
Hirsch work is in agreement with the 'pink grapefruit' study which found that , women wearing a pink grapefruit scent appeared 6 years younger than their actual age according to the men who were surveyed.
Appearing both younger and thinner - not a bad benefit from a fragrance.

Appear Younger Without A Trip To The Doctors Office
While everyone knows that wearing sunscreen, getting the right amount of sleep and not smoking will prevent the skin from aging prematurely, what can be done about existing damage? Especially for those people who want to avoid a trip to the doctor's office?
For leathery or dull skin, a doctor would advise a chemical peel. However a resurfacing serum may work almost as well. The resurfacing chemical is a mild peel that you can do in the privacy of your own home. Check the label for the ingredient glucosamine arginine for the best results. Editor at Self Magazine, Leah Wyar says, It really dissolves the dull layers of skin so you have a more glowing complexion. Keep in mind that the serum shouldn't be used more than two or three times a week.
Fine lines and wrinkles are often treated in the doctors' offices with Botox, however peptide treatments at home can provide similar results. The chemicals send messages to your nerves telling them to relax the muscles. While it is available in a cream, the serum in the gel patch is more effective. Check for peptides on the label.
For deeper wrinkles, look for a product with hyaluronic acid on the label. It gets under your skin and sucks up moisture into your upper layers of skin to temporarily plump and fill your wrinkles.
Age spots and freckles would be treated by retinoid by your doctor. Over time the retinoid treatment would smooth out your skin and skin tone. Wyar announces that there are antioxidant treatment that can do the same thing, repair damaged skin.
Wyar speaks of the Coffeeberry which forms a shield in your skin and deactivates those free radicals that are floating around your skin and causing damage.
Blue ginger and bearberry are similar to the Coffeeberry product. These products should be applied twice daily along with a sunscreen to help the skin absorb the antioxidant better.
Currently, a department store is the best place to shop for any of the products mentioned in this article.

New Laser Design Eliminates Hyper-Pigmentation In Pregnant Women And Seniors
Melasma, the hyper-pigmentation in the skin, has plagued pregnant women and seniors for as long as anyone can remember. The darker areas of the skin commonly called brown spots can now be eliminated through the use of a new laser device. The process, called Fraxel, will rid the skin of melasma and return its natural beauty.
Not only does Fraxel remove the brown spots, it can also help remove wrinkles, blemishes, and scars.
Dr. Hardaway, owner of the Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and Laser Center, says, Pregnant women suffer from darkening of the skin and Fraxel helps stop and erase that process. Seniors, and sometimes younger people, also have similar problems.
The process is very effective and there is only a little discomfort which abates rapidly.
Results are accomplished in three to five treatments, each spaced two to six weeks apart. The treatment leads to better skin conditions in tone and texture, reduction of wrinkles and surgical and acne scars, said Hardaway.
Fraxel has already received approval from the FDA.

New Cosmetic Trend Emerging At Spas
Resort spas, such as Skana the Spa at Turning Stone, have opted to add dermatology treatments to their guest services. Skana has teamed up with Dermatology
Associates of Central New York to provide non-surgical skin procedures such as peels, fillers, Botox and hair removal.
Karen Watson, Skana Spa manager, said Non-surgical professional skincare procedures are the next step for our guests who visit Skana Spa for a total spa
experience. Our new dermatology services are administered by highly trained physicians in the safe and nurturing environment of Skana Spa.
Dr. Amin Fazeli and Dr. Robert Loss are two of the physician from the Dermatology Associates. Both are Harvard-trained and specialize in skin, nail and hair
treatments.
While the addition of dermatology services is a convenience to spa guest, it is advisable for those guests to educate themselves on what they should expect
from a professional skin treatment. Skana is on the right track by requiring physicians to personally administer the services.
Be sure to ask who will be administering the treatments as well as the level of training they have. Doctors or physician assistants should do injections,
while the requirements for individuals performing laser treatments are often much lower. This is one of the reasons there have been so many reports of people
being burned by laser treatments.
The sanitation and cleanliness is also vital whenever you are getting skin treatments. Ask to tour the facilities and if you notice untidy conditions, you
can be sure the place is not suitable for your skin therapy.

Some Information About Microdermabrasion
Recently though, microdermabrasion has expanded its reach beyond the doctors offices and into people's homes. This has caused the procedure to lose its high
standing as a top aesthetic treatment.
However, if you are performing microdermabrasion on yourself, there are a few things you should know. The following four-step schedule will help you become
your own skin expert.
1. Ask yourself what you expect from microdermabrasion. Without knowing what you really want from a product, you can't truly determine its effectiveness. Microdermabrasion is most commonly used to reduce wrinkles, remove or reduce scars, lighten skin tone, retexturize damaged skin, and reduce
the appearance of freckles and age spots.
2. Determine your skin type to help decide how often you should use microdermabrasion. Depending on whether your skin is oily, dry, rough, leathery or sensitive will be a determining factor for how often your should treat your skin.
3. Choose your microdermabrasion product to suit your skin type and your skin goals. A deep skin procedure will not be your best choice if your skin is sensitive and you only want to reduce the appearance of freckles as it may cause irritation. On the other hand, if you have leathery skin and deep wrinkles, you wouldn't want a product that barely affects the skin.
Generally: Sensitive skin wants to stick to smooth, small crystals for exfoliating and creams with no fragrances; Dry skin will want to use a lotion or oil-based microdermabrasion procedure; Oily and rough skin will want a strong, deep treatment that will penetrate the oily layer on the skin. Consider apricot or pomegranate agents to exfoliate.
4. Repeat procedures according to your skin's response. After you are sure that you have chosen the correct microdermabrasion agent and procedure, monitor the length of time it takes your skin to heal from the treatment as well as the effectiveness according to your objectives. While it is normal right
after the treatment for your skin to be slightly red and tender, after a couple of days your skin should begin to feel better. Once it feels better, you are free to treat your skin again. Focus only on giving your skin enough time to heal after each treatment.
It is safer to perform at-home microdermabrasion much more frequently than you would professional treatments. The results of your at-home treatments will achieve the best results once you have determined the best combination for your skin.

Botox And Men- Quick Painless Procedure to Smooth Out wrinkles
It really is just an extension of physical condition and wellness, says Jon Mendelsohn, plastic surgeon with Advanced Cosmetic Surgery and Laser Center in Norwood, Ohio.
Men are progressively preferring the speedy, fairly painless method to even out a few wrinkles for expert improvement and personal pleasure.
Botox treatments have the advantage of being less time-consuming and aesthetic than a health resort service. Also, they are not as all-encompassing as surgical processes. Part of the practice's demand for men is its unfussiness, Mendelsohn affirmed.
Devinder Mangat, a facial plastic surgeon with Mangat Kuy Plastic Surgery Center in Edgewood, Ohio says, I believe men are devoting more time and effort to taking care of their appearance for the same cause as women.
Men are inclined to be very confidential when they have any sort of aesthetic work done. It is simply fast without any betraying signs, except for a few wrinkles, Peter McKenna, plastic surgeon with the Cincinnati Institute of Plastic Surgery stated.
A standard treatment takes nothing more than five minutes, in which a medical expert administers jabs to forehead lines, crow's feet or frown lines. Although it takes three to five days for Botox to start showing results and up to 10 days for the full effect, the spots from the injections disappear by the time a customer returns to work or home.
Prior to the time the previous injections lose effectiveness majority of the new Botox clients get
occasional treatments within three to four months while experienced clients can hold on for four to six onths. Varying according to how many units of Botox are utilized, the general standard for its procedures is $435 per region .
If the cost is lesser than a competing price, doctors advise inquiring on how many units of Botox are integrated in a estimated price.

Reviews Of Skin Products Against Aging And Wrinkles
Arbonne is a range of skin care products that comes packaged as a kit and costs about $265. Many people who have used the products were disappointed by the results, expecting more for the outrageous cost. One woman claimed the product worked wonders to reduce the lines around her mouth and eyes in only a few days.
However, other critics have reported little, or even reverse, effect from the products. It can be difficult to read an objective review since many reviews online seem to be written by individuals trying to sell the Arbonne line of products.
Arbonne is sold, similarly to Avon and Mary Kay, by hosting parties in homes. The company uses natural products and even offers customization of their kits to suit your skin type.
Arecoll is a filler given through injection into the skin. One individual paid the price of $500 to have Arecoll injected into the lip area to provide fullness. While it did seem to have the desired effect, the results fade after time. Long-term tests haven't yet been completed so the long-term effects of the product are not yet known.
Aubrey Organic Lumessence is marketed as an anti-aging cream although reviews generally seem to indicate it's only really useful as a moisturizer.
The small jar of the product is priced at roughly $23 and is supposed to decrease wrinkles in the facial area. However critics report the cream, while non-greasy, does nothing to reduce the signs of aging.
The skin product is good for moisturizing the skin through the use of the following ingredients; Rose Mosqueta, vitamins A, C, and E, primrose, oat proteins, and others. Generally it is felt to be rather expensive for a simple moisturizer.
Rose Mosqueta is a essential fatty acid that works to help the skin retain a youthful and health appearance. The substance is gathered from the wild roses bushes in South America. Besides being effective as an anti-aging ingredient, it is also reputed to be helpful in treating scar tissue, burns and stretch marks.

Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences Announces Availability of Botox
Dr. A.K. Singh, the head of the neurology department at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) told members of a botulinum toxin (Botox) workshop that the Botox therapy is now available at the IGIMS.
The botulinum toxin is one of the strongest poisons currently classified. A very small amount of only 1mg is capable of killing 10,000 people. However, as Dr. Singh pointed out, Botox also has helpful benefits to patients afflicted with certain muscular disorders. It is these benefits that necessitate medical science to research Botox.
Botox can assist in the temporary paralysis of certain muscles in order to alleviate suffering caused by
contracting muscles. Botox is currently used on patients with cerebral palsy as well as other severe conditions.
Dr. Singh reports that Botox can provide relief to patients affected by focal dystonia as well as those suffering from cervical dystonia, which leads to deformation and pain in the neck. A demonstration of the Botox therapy was given to the members of the workshop.

Natural Anti-Aging Products
If you are considering any anti-aging product, be it a lotion, cream, gel, machine, or even a natural remedy it is in your best interest to do a little research about that particular product before you invest your time and money. Additionally, you may want to read user reviews to see what others think about the product as well.
Vitamins
Vitamins are part of a healthy diet and can have an overall beneficial effect on your health. Depending on the particular vitamin, you will get different benefits, but they can help you not only look younger, but feel younger. Vitamin A and the Vitamin B Complex are known to be a natural anti-aging element because it helps refresh skin tissue. Calcium, magnesium, and zinc are also thought to have positive effects on skin renewal.
Methyl Sulfonyl Methane
Methyl Sulfonyl Methane, also known as MSM, is available in both pill form and a lotion or cream. MSM is a bivalent group of SO2, which happens to be a set of synaptic chromosomes. MSM has been used for years by people who want to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, although recently, the government has begun labeling the supplement bottles with warnings, as the MSM pill has been found to cause harm to your health.
Collagen and Antioxidants
Collagen can help prevent or minimize fine lines and wrinkles and comes in supplemental, cream, gel, and lotion form. However, take care when using the supplement, as it has been found to cause or contribute to some health problems.
Antioxidants are free-radical fighting elements that can help fight the aging process. Copper is a natural antioxidant that can help fight wrinkles. Other naturally occurring antioxidants include Vitamin C, alpha lipoic acid, DMEA, tocotrienol, and ester.
Primrose Oils
Primrose oils have been found to prevent wrinkles. In fact, essential fatty acids combined with linolic acid can actually restore your skinâs health. These oils can help moisturize the skin and nails, causing the appearance of lines and wrinkles to disappear.
Remember, wrinkles occur for several reasons, other than aging. Dry skin, exposure to sun, smoke, and alcohol, tanning beds, bruises, and injury can all contribute to the onset of wrinkles. If you avoid these things, or moisturize your skin, you can slow down the aging effects associated with them.
Dealing with Dry Skin
Dry skin can cause wrinkles and lead to looking older than you would like. It is essential that you take care of dry skin properly to reduce the gaining process. Using baby oil on dry skin is not ideal, it will provide moisture, however it will also attract dirt. Dirty skin can also wrinkle more easily than clean skin.
These are just a few natural remedies when it comes to keeping your youthful looks. In conclusion, always be sure to research any new natural remedy before beginning a new skincare regimen or supplement.

Laura Bush- Her Style And Her Looks
It canât be easy being married to one of the most powerful men in the world. When your every move is scrutinized and your picture is regularly in the papers, you have every right to be a little conscious of your looks. So how does Laura Bush handle it? And does she have anything to feel self conscious about?
Fashion Journalist Louise Gerrard says: âLaura is the perfect politicians wife. Sheâs knows how she is expected to dress and she has her style down to a tee.
Laura always looks very conservative. Smart skirt suits and pearls are almost her trademark. Its hard to know though whether this is Lauraâs personal choice or just what she knows she has to wear. The First lady cannot be seen in cropped jeans and a tank top!â
âLauraâs style is a little âuptightâ. Even with her role as the First lady she could loosen up a little. Well-lined wide trousers with a fitted blouse is both smart but cool. I think Laura could do with showing a little bit more of an adventurous style to show a more youthful side to herâ
Hair and make-up stylist Caitlyn Moore says âLauraâs hair is quite fussy. Itâs very âstyledâ and looks quite high maintenance. This type of style is quite dated and can add years to a personâs look. Laura could try a more choppy style to give her a more modern look.â
Cosmetic Specialist Dr Richard Halton says âI do not think Laura has received any surgical assistance. There is a possibility of some restylane injection though as her skin is quite smooth in appearance.â
Laura gets seven out of ten on the Grinza scale; from Louise - âletâs see your wild side Laura!â

Madonna And Her Looks
Queen of Pop Madonna has been changing her fashion style for years, her hair has gone from blonde to brunette and back again countless times and tried everything from Gothic to dance queen, from Latino lovely to funky rock chick but has she managed to capture a style that keeps her looking youthful? Or is
it time to embrace growing old a little more gracefully?
Thereâs no doubt that Madonna has style. For over 20 years she has been a fashion icon for millions but at 48 years old is fashion enough to keep the superstar looking young?
Fashion journalist Louise Gerrard says âMadonna is a beautiful woman. She knows whatâs trendy because very often she sets the trends. However the whilst she definitely has the figure for the disco-queen style sheâs sporting at the moment I think there are better styles out there for her which will be more suited
to her age.â
âThereâs no need for her to dress dowdy but the leotards and knee boots are probably more suited to someone in their very early 20âs. I think if she was to wear something a little more sophisticated sheâd look more stylish than she does at the momentâ.
Louise adds âMadonnaâs hair suits her perfectly. The strawberry blonde lightens her face whilst still looking natural and the cut accentuates her fantastic bone structure.â
Cosmetic specialist Dr Richard Halton says âMadonna has fantastic skin for her age. She has great bone structure and lives a healthy lifestyle which helps keep her skin looking youthful. It is also clear she protects her skin from the sun as there is very little sun damage. I would not think she has had any
cosmetic surgery.â
Madonna gets an eight on the GRINZA scale - great skin for her age but as far as Louise is concerned âsometimes her clothes let her down.â

Is Lip Gloss Bad For You?
Janet Jackson And Her Looks
Janet Jackson has not had an easy time of it lately. Her brother faced another child sex court case, her last album didnât do as well as it was expected to and to top it all off sheâs been criticized in the tabloids after putting on a little weight. All that stress would get to anyone so Janet could be forgiven for looking a little worse for wear.
But Janet is of the Superstar breed who seem to defy reality. Just months after being spotted look a little frumpy to say the least the singer was back to her usual stunning self and actually looking better than ever! So whatâs her secret?
Fashion Journalist Louise Gerrard saysâ âJanet looks amazing! It seemed to take her no time at all to get her super-toned figure back and itâs almost unbelievable that she is 40! Janet has a really funky style and because she looks so young she can pull it off without looking like she is trying too hard. Because of her figure everything looks great on her anyway! I doubt there are many twenty year olds with a stomach that toned!â
Cosmetic specialist Dr Richard Halton says: âJanet looks to have had rhinoplasty, known more commonly as a nose job. Rhinoplasty can change the entire aesthetic of the face and is a very popular treatment. However this is not an age defying treatment. People who undergo the surgery have usually disliked the shape and size of their nose for sometime and decided to have it corrected. I donât think Janet has had any treatments to make her look younger. She has quite a youthful looking face naturally.â
Janet gets an eight on ten on the Grinza scale; from Louise - âwhen it comes to aging Janetâs obviously in âControlâ!â

Stem Cells Offer Hope For The Future Of Plastic Surgery
Shi conducts research in the USC's Center for Craniofacial Molecular Biology. Working together with scientists at dental schools in China and Korea, Shi has discovered that mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have the ability to grow bone and tissue as demonstrated in swine and mouse subjects.
Although the studies are still in their early stages, the research published in the Stem Cells' April issue implies that MSCs could someday be the first choice of plastic surgeons in just about every procedure performed.
It's very exciting, Shi commented, It is fundamentally different from current techniques. At this point it is just a concept, but in the future it may change the way we do plastic surgery.
The studies include results from two separate experiments. First Shi and colleagues drew MSC from human bone marrow and inserted them into the fore section of a skull. Two months later, growth was apparent. Further examination of the new tissue proved it to be not only healthy but also completely part of the existing bone.
More amazing was the evidence that the new bone revealed signs of homeostasis, a method the bone uses to produce red and white blood cells.
Shi said, This is very important. This is not an implant. This is an extension of the body. These cells have the ability to work with and organize existing cells and tissue.
The second series of experiments extracted MSCs from a periodontal ligament and injected them into the facial creases of a mouse subject. The creases faded over time due to the creation of new collagen matter.
In the future, Shi plans to move forward with his preliminary findings by studying various systems of delivery. The MSCs success can change through the use of different scaffolding materials. He is also planning to examine the possibility of autologous stem cells, which are produced by the subject own tissue, to increase success rates.
Shi says, There are many potential applications for these techniques. There is still so much that we don't understand fully. It is clear that we need more studies to explore new therapies and improve clinical consequences.

Fish Parts Found To Prevent Wrinkles
The National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA) has been studying the effects of fish waste on skin cells. The results may prove that the answer to preventing wrinkles lies in the most revolting parts of the fish.
The parts most often used are the skin and liver, and occasionally the eyes or gills.
Reserachers at the NIWA have spent the last five years testing these bits of fish waste on human skin cells grown in test tubes. Over 150 various species of fish were testing. The results proved most interesting, They don't' act like ordinary UV protectants for example, which primarily put a layer over the top of your skin, but seem to actually get into the cells and actually so a protection from within the cell, says Dr. Vicki Webb of the NIWA.
While fish waste won't stop people from aging, it does seem to give skin cells a longer life expectancy. Omega 3 oil, the oil found in fish. Has been included in many skin products before but this will be the first time actual fish parts will be used. Expect products to begin appearing on shelves, in France, later this year.
Some wonder if consumers will really be wiling to purchase beauty products made of fish parts. Gary Nicholson, of the Kirkcaldie Stains store, believes they will. It's probably one of those products that people will come and try and if they find it works for them they will continue to purchase it.
However NIWA cautions people that not all of the fish waste products are effective for wrinkle prevention. No don't' try this at home, wait until the product comes out.

Condoleeza Rice- Her Style And Her Looks
Condoleeza Rice has pushed boundaries. She has shown that sex doesnât matter when it comes to power. She has shown she can take on any man when it comes to politics and beat them at their own game and love her or hate her you have to admire her. But one issue that has never really been discussed is Condoleezaâs looks. Thereâs no doubt sheâs an intelligent woman but is she dealing with aging as well as she is dealing with authority?
Condoleezaâs political career has been prolific. She became Secretary of State on January 26, 2005 after four years as the National Security Advisor. But has considering the well being of the country prevented her from taking any interest in her looks? And is holding back the aging process very much low on her priorities?
Fashion journalist Louise Gerrard says âCondoleeza is an amazing woman. She has one of the most important jobs in the world. Saying that she is a woman and of course looks are somewhat important to her. However, perhaps because she has more important things to think about, Condoleeza doesnât dress as well she could.â
âObviously her profession dictates her fashion sense in some way. She has to have a conservative style to work in the White House. However her style is slightly boring and old fashioned. If Condoleeza was in another profession she could have a much more fresh and funky style and she looks great for her age but her profession restricts her style and therefore makes her look older than she is and certainly older than she could look.â
Cosmetic Specialist Dr Richard Halton says âI would not think Condoleeza has received any cosmetic treatment. I would not think she has had time to do so!â
Condoleeza receives a seven out of ten on the GRINZA scale. From Louise - âher style lets her down.â
